According to Tweets from David Hewlett... Momoa has the role. Just sayin'.

Yeah, of course he would say so. He's pals with Jason. But unless he's like, the casting director, I'll wait for official word.
Which is not to say I wouldn't like to see what JM could do with the part, nor am I saying I would prefer Kellan Lutz... Just that I daresay one actor's opinion can't be trusted 100%.
I wish they'd just announce it already and end the anticipation.
EDIT: Just checked out JM's IMDb page, and he's listed as being Conan. Good going, JM!

I could believe Momoa as Conan.
As for there being some "untouchable" films, I would say we'll never see remakes of Gone with the Wind or Citizen Kane... at least under those names. They're just too well known.
Of course, the same was often said of The Wizard of Oz before SyFy made Tin Man.
Granted, it told a very different story...
There's been talk that Ron Howard was remaking my favorite movie, Colossus: The Forbin Project. I'm expecting the worst (since the original wasn't what one would call high art), but I'm looking forward to seeing it, if for nothing more than morbid curiosity...

I don't get Jason Momoa as Conan. He just doesn't do it for me. Kellan Lutz would have to be older as well before I'd take him as Conan.
For me, no one will ever be Conan like The Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I love that movie.
I do worry about a remake, especially given the lack of Cold War tensions which helped make the original so good.

Agreed. And computer technology these days has accomplished just about everything a Colossus could be, hardware-wise.

They'd have to take it the same direction the 007 movies went after the Cold War ended... fighting terrorists or whatever was the apocalyptic threat that year.

Fascinating list. It supports my long-held contention that they stopped making good stuff after the 80's
I can see a few of them potentially working, mainly because there's nothing really about them that's automatically dated (Akira, The Black Hole). Some will automatically be better than the originals because the originals were so excruciatingly awful (Daredevil). Some will be automatic epic fails because the originals only worked because of who the actors were (Arthur) and the actor cannot possibly be replaced by any other living person (True Grit). Some are very dated (Barbarella) and would need to be changed so much they might not bear much resemblance to the originals.

It's no sicker than our discussions about rebooted casts of Star Trek and similar things.
If a Franchise shows interest to be continued or rebooted, I'm willing to at least give it a CHANCE.
I mean, seriously...who here thought the new Star Trek movie would be any good?

Did you see the sequel list? It read like a horrible nightmare...

There are a few on that list that I wouldn't mind seeing. I can't imagine it's possible to make Daredevil any worse. He's my favorite Marvel hero of all time and they got Ben F****** Afleck??? Did you see the way his face oozed out of that (shiney leather) mask like a warm tube of cookie dough? He is consistantly number one on my list of celebrities I wish I could punch in the face... or hit with a shovel... or land a cessna on...
I would actually like to see a new Death Wish. As much as I love Bronson, I think the subject matter can work just as well today. For example, I think Payback (Mel Gibson) was a very decent remake of Point Blank (Lee Marvin).
Many of them, though, I would just have no interest in seeing either because the movie was no good the first time around, the level of nostalgia is just too great to risk ruining something I love, or because I can't picture it being done without the original actors. Drop Dead Fred? Why? The only reason I watched that one was for Phoebe Kates. Mmm...
Of all the movies on the list, the one I would absolutely not want to see remade is probably Warriors, which I pop into the player a couple times a month. Maybe I should put that on the guilty pleasures thread...
